Student Activities

We offer opportunities to explore British Columbia and build long lasting friendships.

Scheduled Activities

Every school year, international students studying in Saanich participate in organized activities and excursions. While not required, SISP activities and excursions are encouraged to explore other parts of British Columbia and build long lasting friendships. Registration is completed at your school by your school based International Program Assistant or online when trips are provided by our partner, Discover Canada Tours.

New Student Orientation
(September 2-3)

The SISP New Student JumpStart Orientation is a 2 day event. In this 2 day orientation, students will be introduced to their school and community and participate in a variety of activities. Students will be involved in several events at their respective schools such as presentations, seminars, tours, games, and assessments. In addition, students will be taken outside of their schools to explore and experience the beautiful Greater Victoria area. Be sure to bring your study permit and a lunch!

Camp Qwanoes
(September 28-29)

This overnight outing takes place in the breathtaking location of Camp Qwanoes. Nestled away on a picturesque property alongside the Pacific Ocean only one hour outside of Victoria. Students will have the opportunity to take part in fabulous outdoor activities such as zip-lining, obstacle courses, and the monster swing. We take advantage of our time together to build connections and have fun. In the evening there is an Indigenous Education presentation in support of Truth and Reconciliation followed by a dance. Students stay in heated accommodations and enjoy two days of typical camp environment.

NEW THIS YEAR: We will also be visiting the Malahat Skywalk to take in some breathtaking views of the Saanich Peninsula and surrounding areas.

Victoria Whale Watching
(October 21)

Join Prince of Whales Whale Watching on an open zodiac for a day of whale watching. Departing from Victoria’s inner harbour you may see Orca and humpback whales. Getting out of the water is a must while in Saanich!

 

Vancouver Trip
(November 21-22)

Only a ferry ride away, during this day-trip we embrace the city of Vancouver in all its beauty and flair while also attending an NHL Hockey Game. The Vancouver Canucks Vs. the Las Vegas Golden Nights.

The trip will feature:

  • Coach transportation
  • Experienced, friendly, fun tour guide
  • Hotel accommodation based on quad occupancy
  • Guided walking tour of Grandville Island
  • Admission to FlyOver Canada
  • Admission to Capilano Suspension Bridge
  • Canucks Game Ticket
  • One breakfast in the hotel

Students will also visit the lively Shipyard District for a panoramic view of the downtown Vancouver skyline, a driving tour of Stanley Park and some shopping time in Metrotown Mall.

Whistler Ski Trip
(December 8-10)

We spend two nights in the majestic Whistler village and enjoy the world-class alpine mountains of Whistler and Blackcomb for 2 days. All levels of skiers and boarders are encouraged to join as instruction is provided by highly trained ski and boarding professionals.

 

Mount Washington Ski Trip
(March 3-4)

Ski Vancouver Island’s own Mount Washington Alpine Resort just outside of Courtenay approximately 3 hours north of Victoria. This is a 1 night, 1 ski day trip.

Rocky Mountains Trip
(April 19-22)

Students explore the beautiful rocky mountains on a 4 day/3 night adventure. Destinations include Vernon, Banff, Lake Louise, Golden and Kamloops. Activities include snow tubing, ice skating, gondola ride, and many more.

Tofino Trip
(May 18-19)

En route to Tofino we stop in Cathedral Grove Park where students view some of the world’s biggest trees. Once in the Tofino area we spend time at breathtaking Long Beach. After a long day of travel and sightseeing we enjoy a wonderful buffet at our hotel and in the morning we head into Tofino to enjoy the adventures of whale watching. On the way home from Tofino we stop in beautiful and quaint Coombs for dinner.

Year End BBQ
(June 8)

Everyone involved with SISP is invited to this very fun event. Students, staff, host families, teachers, and administration get together and enjoy a BBQ dinner & live music. Other activities include soccer, volleyball, and a photo booth
